Kurdistan
During Jason's months covering the
ongoing conflict in Iraq he made several visits to the Kurdish areas in
the north of the country.
Whilst on assignment for publications
such as The Times of London, US News & World Report and Marie Claire he
visited Kirkuk, Hallabja, Arbil, Mosul and Sulaymaniyah. He has spent a
period of time high in the Quandil mountains close to the Iranian border
in the camps of the PKK (Kurdish Workers Party) who continue to fight
for Kurdish independence and the land they believe to be theirs.
Other stories included the reaction of
the Kurds in Hallabja to Saddam's trial some 16 years after he ordered a
chemical gas attack that killed 5,000 in one day and the ethnic tensions
caused by Kurds returning to towns now populated by Arabs moved there at
the order of Saddam's regime.
